My Timeless Pieces

Buy a Breitling · South Florida · by appointment

Buy a pre-owned Breitling knowing what is under the case back.

Navitimer, Chronomat, or Superocean. I name the calibre, place the generation, and check the bracelet before a Breitling is listed. See it in your county or buy remotely after photos, video, and a call.

  • In-house B01 or supplied base, stated in every listing
  • Relaunch generation or earlier, placed by reference
  • Authenticated in person and guaranteed genuine

Who this page is for

The dial tells you less than the movement does.

This page is for the buyer choosing a Breitling who has noticed that two chronographs of the same size and colour can carry very different levels. One holds the in-house B01; the other a supplied ETA or Valjoux base. One is a 2020 relaunch reference; the other is a generation or two older. The dial will not tell you. The reference and the case back will.

I buy Breitlings in person from owners across South Florida, confirm the calibre against the reference, and list each one with the bracelet, the chronometer papers, and the service record I hold. If the model or size you want is not in the case, I source it through my private network.

Below: B01 versus supplied base from the buyer's side, the relaunch references against the earlier generations, what the COSC paper proves, the sizes to try on, and the bracelet types to check. What moves a Breitling offer when you sell is on the sell page, linked rather than repeated.

What I settle before a Breitling goes in the case.

The calibre, named

B01, B20, calibre 17, or another supplied base, identified from the reference and confirmed with the case back open. The listing says which.

The generation, placed

Relaunch Chronomat on the Rouleaux bracelet, Navitimer from the 2022 redesign, or an earlier generation. I place it by reference and say so.

COSC paper, or the gap stated

The chronometer certificate with the movement number, when it is with the watch. When it is not, the inspection carries the proof and the listing says so.

Bracelet and links counted

Original Breitling bracelet, every spare link, and the buckle, or a strap with the shortfall disclosed. Brushed surfaces checked for a kiosk polish.

Inspected before it is listed

Case, movement, serial, and papers checked by me in person the day the watch arrives, and authenticated before it ships.

How a Breitling reaches the case

From the seller's wrist to yours, one person in between.

  1. 01

    Bought from the owner

I buy in person across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach, or on my insured label from anywhere in the USA, and record what the owner knows.

  2. 02

    Reference and calibre matched

The reference on the case back tells me which calibre should be inside. I open the back and confirm the movement number agrees with it and with the COSC paper.

  3. 03

    Bezel, bracelet, and finish checked

Slide-rule or rider-tab bezel action, bracelet links and stretch, and the line between brushed and polished surfaces.

  4. 04

    Listed with what I know

Calibre, generation, papers, bracelet, service record, and finish. Stated in the catalog, shown at the appointment.

  5. 05

    Seen, then delivered

View it by appointment in your county, or get photos, video, and a call. Hand delivery locally, insured FedEx elsewhere, with an inspection window on arrival.

B01 or supplied base

The in-house chronograph against the ETA-based Breitling.

Breitling fitted its own B01 chronograph from around 2009 and has kept supplied base movements in many references before and since. Both are sound. They are different purchases.

Before you pay

What a Breitling buyer should ask, and what I answer.

Relaunch references or an earlier generation

Around 2020 Breitling relaunched the Chronomat with the Rouleaux bracelet and a B01 movement, and in the years after it redesigned the Navitimer, the Superocean, and the Avenger. These relaunch references are slimmer and more restrained than the generation before them. The earlier watches, the Chronomat Evolution, the bigger Navitimers, the Superocean Steelfish era, wear larger and trade at a lower level. Decide which look you want, then let the reference confirm the generation. The model pages list the references for each.

What the COSC paper proves

Breitling has sent its movements to COSC, the Swiss chronometer testing office, for many years. The certificate carries the movement number and shows the movement passed an official accuracy test when new. It does not say how the watch runs today or what has been replaced since. Use it to confirm the movement is the one that left the factory in that case. If the paper is lost, I verify the movement number in hand and say so in the listing.

Sizes: try before you buy

Breitling cases run large. The current Navitimer comes in several sizes, the Chronomat in a range from compact to full size, and the Superocean from mid-size to very large. An earlier generation of the same model can be bigger and thicker than its relaunch. Case diameter alone does not tell you how it wears; the lug shape and the bezel do. This is the strongest reason to see a Breitling at an appointment rather than on a screen.

Bracelet types to check

The Rouleaux bracelet with its rounded links belongs on the relaunch Chronomat. The Air Racer bracelet belongs on the Navitimer. The Professional bracelet, flat and heavy, appears on the Avenger and sport Superocean. The Ocean Classic mesh belongs on the Superocean Heritage. A Breitling bracelet costs more to replace than a strap, so check that the bracelet is the right one for the reference, that every link is present, and that the clasp closes cleanly. A watch sold on a strap with the original bracelet in the box is a better buy than the strap alone suggests.

Polishing on a brushed case

Breitling cases mix satin brushing with polished bevels. A mall polish turns all of it bright and rounds the edges, and it cannot be undone. On a pre-owned Breitling look at the lugs and the case sides under a lamp: brushing should run in straight lines and stop at a crisp edge. My listings say when a case has been refinished and whether it was done by Breitling. The polishing guide explains what this does to value when you sell on.

Pre-owned or new, catalog or sourced

Breitling is available new without a list, so buy new when you want the current reference unworn with the full factory warranty. Buy pre-owned when you want a discontinued generation, a B01 model at a lower level than the boutique, or a Navitimer with the older beaded bezel. If it is not in the case, send the reference and size through the sourcing form. I look through my private network and show you what I find with photos and video. A search is not a commitment to buy.

When buying a Breitling from me is not the right call

If you want the current Chronomat unworn with the boutique warranty, the boutique is the straight route. If you are after the lowest marketplace number and can judge a refinished case from photos, I will not be that listing. If you want a watch with a swapped movement priced as a B01, I will not sell it to you, and I will tell you why. If you want the calibre, the generation, and the bracelet confirmed by one person who opened the back, and a trade against your current watch if you like, this is the place.

Questions, answered

Before you buy a Breitling here

Can I see the watch before buying?

Yes. I meet by appointment, Mon to Sat, in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach, and at my Brickell office. Breitling sizes are the best reason to try one on first.

Does it matter whether the Breitling has a B01 movement?

Yes. A B01 model draws stronger demand and is easier to sell on. A supplied-base model is a sound watch at a lower level. Every listing names the calibre.

Do you take trades toward a purchase?

Yes. Your current watch is inspected in person and credited against a Breitling in the case or one I source. The trade page explains the credit.

How are watches shipped?

Hand delivery in South Florida, or fully insured FedEx with a signature at both ends and discreet unbranded packaging, USA only. You have an inspection window on arrival, stated in the terms.
