Who this page is for

Most Jaeger-LeCoultre sellers bring me a Reverso.

The Reverso is the watch I see most from this manufacture. It was a gift, a graduation watch, or the dress piece that stopped getting worn. Others bring a Master Ultra Thin, a Master Control, a Polaris, or a vintage Memovox from a parent's drawer.

A Jaeger-LeCoultre is valued on different ground than a steel sport watch. Case size and generation matter. So does the condition of the reversible case, any engraving on the back, the calibre inside, and whether the strap and buckle are the originals. Registration with the brand's warranty programme helps too.

This page walks through each of those, so my reply reads as reasoning you can check. I do not publish prices. The figure depends on the exact reference and the current market, and I give it to you directly.

Selling to a private dealer

One person reads the whole watch.

The case is turned, not skimmed

I flip every Reverso, feel the lock, and check the carriage for play. Photos cannot show that, so I do it in person.

Shipping risk is mine

The FedEx label is prepaid on my account, insured to declared value, signature required, and the box is opened on camera.

An offer with reasons

Within 1 business day you get one specific number, tied to size, generation, papers, and condition.

Paid the next day

Wire or check within 24 hours of inspection. You pick the method before anything ships.

What I check on a Jaeger-LeCoultre

Six things that decide the offer.

Some raise the number, some lower it. The reply says which, for your reference.

Family, size, and generation

Reverso Classic, Tribute, or Duoface. Small, medium, or large. Master, Polaris, or Duomètre. Each trades in its own pool of buyers.

The reversible case

A smooth swivel, a firm lock, and a carriage without wobble. Worn rails or a loose cradle cost money to fix.

Back engraving

A blank back suits any buyer. Initials or dates are personal, and the next owner may want them gone.

Calibre and movement

The in-house calibre should match the reference. Manual winding, automatic, or a second time zone all change who buys.

Papers and JLC Care

The warranty card, any extended-warranty registration, and service records from the manufacture all support the offer.

Strap and buckle

A signed JLC pin buckle or folding clasp matters. A generic buckle on a fresh strap reads as replaced.

How it works

Four steps, start to payout.

Use the prepaid insured FedEx label, or book an appointment in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach.

  3. 03

    Inspection in hand

I unbox on camera, work the swivel, check the calibre and serial, and compare everything to your photos. If it matches, the offer holds.

  4. 04

    Payment

Wire or check within 24 hours of inspection. If we do not agree, the watch returns insured, at my cost.

Complete or not

How each piece of a JLC set changes the offer.

Missing items do not stop a sale. They change how easily the watch can be checked and resold.

The detail

What moves a Jaeger-LeCoultre offer, and why.

Reverso size and generation come first

The Reverso was introduced in 1931, and it has been made in many sizes since. Small and medium cases were once common, while larger cases now suit most wrists. That means two Reversos with the same dial can draw very different interest. Classic, Grande Taille, and Tribute models each have their own buyers.

Send the case measurements if you know them, or a photo of the watch on a ruler. The reference number is in the papers and often on the case. If you cannot find it, a clear photo of both faces is enough for me to identify the model.

Duoface, Tribute, and second-dial models

A Duoface shows a second dial on the back, usually set to a second time zone, driven by the same movement. That adds function, and it adds a second face to inspect. Both dials should be clean, and both sets of hands should be original. Tribute models draw on early Reverso design, and their dial colours and strap pairings matter to collectors.

The reversible case is the condition test

The case slides out of its cradle and turns over. I check that it moves without grinding, locks with a firm click, and sits flat with no rocking. Wear in the rails or a loose carriage is the most common Reverso fault I find. It can be repaired, but the repair is priced into the offer.

The solid back was designed to be engraved, and many are. Initials, dates, or a message make the watch personal. They also narrow the next buyer's interest, and removing them takes metal off the case. Tell me what is on the back and send a straight photo of it.

Master, Polaris, and Duomètre

Outside the Reverso, most Jaeger-LeCoultre watches I see come from the Master line. The Master Ultra Thin is a slim dress watch, and the Master Control is the everyday round model. The Polaris is the sport family, based on the 1968 Memovox Polaris alarm diver. Duomètre models use a dual-wing movement design and sit at the high end of the range. Each is compared only against its own family.

In-house calibres and the 1000 Hours Control

Jaeger-LeCoultre is a manufacture that designs and builds its own movements. The calibre should match what the reference shipped with, so I check it during inspection. Many modern pieces went through the brand's 1000 Hours Control, a long test of finished watches for timekeeping, water resistance, and resistance to shock. A running movement with records from the manufacture is the strongest case you can make.

Papers, JLC Care, and confirming a watch

The warranty card or certificate ties the serial to its first sale. Owners of recent watches can also register with JLC Care, the brand's programme that extends the warranty. A registered watch is easier for me to value, because its history is on record and coverage may remain. If you have not registered yet, ask me before you do it. For older pieces, the manufacture can confirm details from its records on request. That is worth doing if papers are lost.

Strap, buckle, and vintage LeCoultre

Most Jaeger-LeCoultre watches leave the boutique on leather with a signed pin buckle or folding clasp. Straps wear out and are expected to be replaced. The buckle is not, so keep it with the watch. Vintage pieces sold in the United States were often signed LeCoultre alone, without Jaeger. That is normal for those watches, not a warning sign.

When selling to me is not the right call

If the back carries a family engraving and you are unsure, keep the watch. If you have months and want the top private-sale figure, a dealer offer will sit below it. If you plan to buy another watch from me, a trade may serve you better than a sale. If you want a documented, insured sale paid within a day of inspection, that is what I do.

How to prepare your submission

  • Daylight photos of the front dial, the case turned to show the back, both sides, and the buckle.
  • On a Duoface, a straight photo of the second dial as well.
  • The warranty card or certificate next to the watch, serial visible, plus any JLC Care registration.
  • The reference or model name and the case size, if you know them.
  • Service history: who opened it, when, and what was replaced, or say you do not know.
  • Whether you want to ship on my label or meet in person, and your county.

Questions, answered

Before you send a Jaeger-LeCoultre

Does an engraving on my Reverso back lower the offer?

Usually, a little. It depends on the reference and the engraving. I would rather buy it as it is than have you remove it, since removal takes metal off the case.

Should I register my watch with JLC Care before selling?

Ask me first. A registered watch is easier to value, but the right move depends on its age and papers. I will tell you whether it is worth doing for your piece.

What if my Jaeger-LeCoultre has no papers?

I still appraise it. The offer is lower, and the inspection and serial carry more weight. For older pieces, the manufacture can confirm details from its records.

Should I have it serviced or polished first?

No. Polishing softens the Reverso's case lines for good. I inspect the movement either way and price a needed service into the offer.

Can I meet in person instead of shipping?

Yes. I meet by appointment in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach. Anywhere else in the USA, use the prepaid insured FedEx label.
