My Timeless Pieces

Sell your Breitling · South Florida · by appointment

Sell your Breitling to someone who opens the case back.

Tell me the model, send a few photos, and I reply personally within 1 business day. The offer names the movement inside, the generation, and what the bracelet and finish add or take away.

Who this page is for

Two Breitlings can look alike and carry very different offers.

Breitling sellers usually own a tool watch they wore hard: a Navitimer bought for the slide rule, a Chronomat from a milestone year, a Superocean that went on every trip. Some are moving up to another brand. Some found a box in a parent's closet and want to know what is inside it.

With Breitling, the dial tells you less than the movement does. Two chronographs of the same size and color can hold a manufacture caliber or a supplied base movement. That one fact, plus the generation and the papers, does most of the work in setting a fair number.

This page lays out what I look at on a Breitling, so my reply reads as reasoning you can check. I keep prices off the page. Demand shifts between models and generations, and a posted figure would be wrong for half the watches that read it.

Selling to a private dealer

One person reads the watch and signs the offer.

The movement is named

I identify the caliber from the reference and the case back, so you know whether the offer reflects a B01 or a supplied base.

Shipping on my account

The FedEx label is prepaid, insured to the declared value, and needs a signature. I open the parcel on camera.

Reasons beside the number

The reply lists what raised the offer and what lowered it: generation, papers, bracelet, and how the case has been finished.

Money within a day

Once the watch passes inspection, payment goes out by wire or check within 24 hours. You pick the method up front.

What I check on a Breitling

Six details that shape a Breitling offer.

Some raise the number, some lower it. Each one appears by name in my reply.

Caliber and origin

A manufacture B01 chronograph, or an ETA- or Valjoux-based caliber under a Breitling number. Buyers ask this first.

Chronometer papers

The COSC certificate ties the movement number to an official test. Having it with the watch makes the set easier to resell.

Model generation

A Navitimer or Chronomat can span decades. Bezel style, case size, and dial layout place the watch in its generation.

Bracelet or strap

An original Breitling metal bracelet, with its links, often adds more than a leather or rubber strap on the same watch.

Case finish

Breitling cases mix brushed and polished surfaces. Heavy polishing blurs that line and the next buyer notices.

Warranty and service

The warranty card or registration, plus Breitling service papers, show where the watch has been and what was replaced.

How it works

From photos to payment in four steps.

  1. 01

    Send the details

Use the appraisal form. Add the model name, the reference from the case back, and photos of dial, case back, and clasp.

  2. 02

    Read the offer

Within 1 business day I reply personally with a figure and the reasons for it, movement and generation included.

  3. 03

    Ship or meet

Use the insured prepaid FedEx label, or book a meeting by appointment in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach.

  4. 04

    Inspection and payment

I check the watch in hand against the photos. If it matches, you are paid within 24 hours. If we disagree, it returns insured, at my cost.

Bracelet, papers, and finish

How each part of a Breitling set moves the offer.

A Breitling without one of these still sells. The missing piece just changes who will want it next and how fast.

These show direction only, not amounts. The real effect depends on the model and the current market, and my reply shows the math.

The detail

What sets a Breitling offer, and why.

In-house B01 or a supplied movement

Breitling introduced its own chronograph movement, the B01, around 2009 and has since fitted it across Chronomat, Navitimer, and other lines. Many Breitlings, before and after, use base movements from ETA or Valjoux, finished and numbered by Breitling. Both are sound watches. Buyers in the secondary market still separate them, and a B01 model usually draws more interest than a similar watch with a supplied base.

The reference engraved on the case back tells me which caliber should be inside. Send a sharp photo of it. If the movement number and the reference do not agree, that is a question I answer before any offer stands.

Chronometer certification and its paper

Breitling has sent its movements to COSC, the Swiss chronometer testing office, for many years. A watch that passed comes with a certificate carrying the movement number. That paper does not make the watch run better today, but it is part of a complete set and helps the next buyer trust the history. If you have it, photograph it next to the watch. If it is lost, I can still verify the movement in hand.

Navitimer generations and the slide-rule bezel

The Navitimer dates to the early 1950s and carries a circular slide rule on the bezel for flight math. It has gone through many generations: early manual-wind models, the automatic references of the 1990s and 2000s, the B01 models, and a recent redesign. Case size, bezel bead style, dial layout, and the logo all help place a watch in its era. The bezel should turn smoothly and the scale should line up cleanly. A faded or misaligned scale, or a bezel that slips, is noted and priced.

Chronomat, Superocean, Avenger, and the other families

Each Breitling line has its own buyers. The Chronomat is known for the rider tabs on its bezel, and recent versions sit on the Rouleaux bracelet. The Superocean is the dive line, so water resistance and the bezel action matter more there. The Avenger is a large, robust tool watch. Premier and Transocean are the dressier chronographs, and the Colt is a simpler sports model. The family sets the pool of comparable sales I measure your watch against.

Bracelet versus strap

Many Breitlings were sold on a choice of metal bracelet, leather, or rubber. A bracelet costs more to replace than a strap, so an original Breitling bracelet with its full set of links tends to lift the offer. If the watch now wears a strap but you kept the bracelet, send both. If you kept the original deployant or tang buckle, send that too. Aftermarket straps are fine to wear, but they add nothing to the number.

Polishing on brushed cases

Breitling cases and bracelets use a lot of satin brushing beside polished bevels. A quick polish at a mall kiosk turns all of it bright and rounds the edges. That cannot be undone, and collectors spot it fast. Please send the watch as it is. Scratches from normal wear are expected. I photograph them, and a refinish by Breitling later is a cost I price fairly, not a reason to decline.

Warranty cards and service records

Breitling issued paper and card warranties over the years, and newer pieces are registered digitally. Any of them helps date the watch and confirm its first sale. Service by Breitling usually comes with a written record of the work and any replaced parts, such as a dial, hands, crystal, or pushers. An independent service without records is not a problem, but I treat it as unknown history and check the movement more closely.

When selling to me is not the right call

If you can wait months for a private buyer, you may net more than a dealer offer. If a trade suits you better, I can credit the Breitling against another watch instead. If the watch is a replica or has a swapped movement, I will say so and I will not buy it. If you want a documented, insured sale and payment soon after inspection, send it in.

How to prepare your submission

  • Daylight photos: dial straight on, the case back with the reference legible, both sides of the case, the bezel, and the clasp.
  • A photo of the COSC certificate and warranty card or registration next to the watch.
  • The model name and when you bought it, if you know.
  • Service history: Breitling or independent, roughly when, and what was replaced.
  • Whether the original bracelet, links, or buckle are with the watch, and whether you prefer to ship or meet.

Questions, answered

Before you send a Breitling

Do you buy Breitling watches?

Yes. Breitling is one of the brands I buy outright, including Navitimer, Chronomat, Superocean, Avenger, Premier, and Transocean. I do not buy replicas or watches with swapped movements.

Does it matter whether my Breitling has a B01 movement?

Yes. A B01 model usually draws stronger demand than a similar watch with a supplied base movement. Send the reference from the case back and I will confirm which caliber it should have.

What if I lost the chronometer certificate or warranty card?

I still appraise the watch. The offer is lower, and I explain by how much for your model. The movement and serial checks in hand carry more weight.

My Breitling is on a strap. Is the original bracelet worth sending?

Yes. An original Breitling bracelet with its links usually raises the offer more than any strap. Send it with the watch, along with spare links and the buckle if you have them.

Should I polish or service my Breitling before selling?

No. Polishing removes the brushed finish and lowers the offer. A service right before a sale rarely pays back. I inspect the movement and price any needed service into the number.

Can I sell my Breitling from outside Florida?

Yes, from anywhere in the USA on my insured prepaid FedEx label. In Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach we can also meet by appointment.
