Who this page is for

The Seamaster name covers four very different watches.

This page is for the owner of a Seamaster who wants to know which one they have in a dealer's eyes and what that does to the offer. A 1990s quartz 300M, a 2018 300M on calibre 8800, a 2021 Seamaster 300, and a 1960s gold-capped Seamaster De Ville carry the same name and are valued on different grounds.

The Planet Ocean and the Aqua Terra have their own pages. Here I cover the Diver 300M in every generation, the Seamaster 300 heritage line, the Ploprof and Bullhead, and the vintage dress Seamasters from estates.

The Master Chronometer card, the Extract of the Archives, service parts, and polishing in general are on the Omega page. Here: generation, Bond editions, dive hardware, bracelet, and what must be in your photos.

Selling a Seamaster to a private dealer

What a Seamaster buyer does differently.

Line and generation first

I place the watch before I judge it: 300M by movement generation, Seamaster 300 by its 2014 or 2021 release, Ploprof by era, dress Seamaster by calibre and metal.

Bond premium checked, not assumed

A numbered Bond edition is priced on its number and its set. A standard blue 300M that looks like the film watch is priced as a standard blue 300M.

Estate Seamasters read as watches

A gold-capped 1960s Seamaster carries a thin layer of gold over steel. I price the calibre, dial, and case, not a metal weight that is not there.

Dive hardware tested on the bench

Helium valve, bezel action, crown threads, and clasp extension are checked by hand. A sticky valve or a loose bezel is a service bill.

What I check on a Seamaster

Six things that move a Seamaster offer.

Brand-level checks are on the Omega page.

Which Seamaster

Diver 300M, Seamaster 300 heritage, Ploprof, or vintage dress. The case back reference answers it and sets the comparables.

Diver 300M generation

Quartz or calibre 1120 in the 1990s, co-axial 2500 in the 2000s, 8800 Master Chronometer from 2018. Three separate markets.

Wave dial, plain dial, ceramic dial

The 1990s stamped wave dial, the plain dial of the later 2500 references, and the 2018 engraved ceramic dial each date the watch at a glance.

Bond editions and the number

The 2002, 2012, and 2015 editions are numbered on the case back. The 2020 No Time to Die titanium is not. Number, card, and box carry the premium.

Bezel insert and helium valve

Aluminium inserts on the older 300M scratch and get replaced; ceramic on the 2018 chips. The valve must turn cleanly and seal.

Bracelet and clasp

The 1990s 300M bracelet stretches at the pins and its clasp wears. A tight bracelet with all links keeps the watch at its best level.

How it works

Four steps, Seamaster photos in the first.

  1. 01

    Get an offer

Submit the appraisal form with photos of the dial in daylight, the bezel insert from above, the case back with the reference and any edition number, the helium valve crown, the clasp open, and the warranty card or booklet. I reply personally within 1 business day.

  2. 02

    Ship or meet

Take the prepaid, fully insured FedEx label, or book an appointment in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach. Vintage Seamasters are best seen in person.

  3. 03

    Inspect and confirm

I open the box on camera and check the movement, dial, bezel, valve, bracelet, serial, and card against the generation. If it matches, the offer stands.

  4. 04

    Get paid

Wire or check within 24 hours of inspection. If we do not agree, the watch goes back to you, insured, at my cost.

Two eras of the Diver 300M

The 1990s and 2000s Diver 300M against the 2018 generation.

The split sellers most often misjudge. The two sell on different comparables.

The detail

What moves a Seamaster offer, line by line.

Four watches share the Seamaster name

Omega has used the Seamaster name since the late 1940s, first on dress watches and later on dive watches. Today it covers the Diver 300M, the Seamaster 300 reissue, the Ploprof, the Planet Ocean, and the Aqua Terra, plus decades of vintage pieces. The reference on the case back tells me which one you have.

Diver 300M before 2018: wave dial, quartz, 1120, and 2500

The Diver 300M launched in 1993 with the stamped wave dial, skeleton hands, a scalloped bezel, and the helium valve at ten o'clock. It came as a quartz and as an automatic on calibre 1120, in 41 mm and a 36 mm mid-size, plus a chronograph and a GMT. The blue automatic is the one most sellers call the Bond watch. The quartz sells on its own level, below the automatic, so tell me which yours is before you compare listings.

From the mid-2000s the automatic moved to the co-axial calibre 2500, first keeping the wave dial and later with a plain dial. These are often listed as either generation; I price them as what they are. On all of these, the aluminium insert, the bracelet pins, and the valve are the wear points.

Diver 300M from 2018: the ceramic dial on calibre 8800

The 2018 redesign moved the 300M to 42 mm, a ceramic dial with laser-engraved waves, a ceramic bezel, a conical helium valve, a display back, and the 8800 Master Chronometer. It ships with a warranty card and a Master Chronometer card, and both matter. A chip on the ceramic bezel edge cannot be polished out, so I look for it first. The 2020 No Time to Die version is titanium on calibre 8806 and is not a numbered edition.

Bond editions: when the premium is real

The premium is real on the numbered editions: the 2002 Die Another Day 300M, the 2012 Skyfall 300M, and the 2015 Spectre Seamaster 300, each numbered on the case back out of a fixed run. On those, the case back number, the matching card, and the box together are the premium, and a missing card shrinks it. A standard blue 300M that resembles a film watch carries no premium. I will tell you which you have from the case back.

Seamaster 300 heritage: 2014, 2021, and the vintage 165.024

The Seamaster 300 is the heritage reissue of the 1957 dive watch. The 2014 version is a 41 mm Master Co-Axial with a sandwich dial and a Liquidmetal bezel; the 2021 version moves to calibre 8912 and a lollipop seconds hand. Both are modern watches sold on their cards. The vintage 165.024 is a different market, quoted after inspection, because dials, hands, bezels, and crowns were replaced on most of them at some point.

Ploprof and Bullhead are their own cases

The Ploprof is the 1970s professional diver with the locking bezel button, relaunched in 2009. The Bullhead is the 1969 chronograph with the crown at twelve, reissued in 2013. Neither is priced against the 300M. The vintage ones are seen in person, the modern ones from photos.

Vintage dress Seamasters and gold-capped cases

Most estate Seamasters are dress watches from the 1950s and 1960s, including the early Seamaster De Ville, on automatic calibres in the 5xx family or hand-wound 600-series movements. Many are gold-capped: a thin layer of gold bonded over a steel case, with no scrap value worth counting, so I price the watch as a watch. What moves the offer is an original dial, an unworn cap at the lug edges, a signed crown, and an unpolished case back. A solid gold case is checked by hallmark and reads differently.

When selling to me is not the right call

If you own a vintage 165.024 or a rare-dial estate piece, a specialist auction may reach a collector I cannot, and I will say so after inspection. If your 300M is a quartz with a dead battery and a stretched bracelet, I will price it as is rather than send you for a service that costs more than it returns. If you want the watch sold this week and paid within 24 hours of inspection, this is the right page.

How to prepare your Seamaster submission

  • The dial straight on in daylight, showing the wave pattern or its absence and the lume colour.
  • The bezel insert from directly above, so scratches, a replacement, or a chip read correctly.
  • The case back with the reference legible, and any edition number on a Bond piece.
  • The helium valve crown and the main crown, and the clasp open with the extension visible.
  • The warranty card, Master Chronometer card, or booklet beside the watch, numbers visible.
  • On a vintage piece, any old parts that came back in a bag.

Questions, answered

Before you send a Seamaster

Which Seamaster do I have?

Read the reference on the case back or the card. A rotating bezel and a helium valve at ten o'clock mean a Diver 300M. No bezel and a small case usually mean a vintage dress Seamaster.

Is a Bond edition worth more?

The numbered 2002, 2012, and 2015 editions carry a premium when the case back number, card, and box are together. A standard blue 300M that looks like the film watch does not.

Do you buy old gold-capped Seamasters?

Yes, priced as watches, on the calibre, dial, and case condition. The gold cap is a thin layer over steel, so there is no metal value to add.

Is the wave dial worth more than the newer ceramic dial?

Different generations, different comparables. A full-set 2018 ceramic-dial 300M usually sits above a 1990s wave dial, but a tight, honest 1990s automatic with its booklet holds its own level.

My 1990s 300M came with a booklet, not a card. Does that count?

Yes. The stamped booklet was the paperwork of that era. Photograph the stamped page with the serial; it carries the weight a card does on a newer watch.
