Buy a Zenith · South Florida · by appointment
Buy a pre-owned Zenith with the calibre named, from the person who inspected it.
Chronomaster, Defy, Pilot, Elite. A Zenith is bought on its movement first, so every one in my case is listed by calibre, reference, and generation, with the card and strap set that came with it. See it in your county or by photos, video, and a call.
- El Primero 400, 3600, or 21, or Elite, confirmed before listing
- Vintage A386 and A384 bought and sold only in hand
- Authenticated in person before it ships, guaranteed genuine
- Hand delivery in South Florida, insured FedEx across the USA

Who this page is for
You want the El Primero. Here is how to choose which one.
Buyers come to me for a Zenith because of one movement, then have to choose between the watches built around it: a Chronomaster Sport on the 3600, a Chronomaster El Primero or Original, a Revival A386, the vintage 1969 watch itself, or a Defy on the El Primero 21. This page answers that from the buyer's side.
How a Zenith is read for condition, the reference on the caseback, the calibre families, vintage parts, bronze patina, all of that is on my sell page for Zenith and its El Primero page. I link it rather than repeat it. Here you get what to check before you pay, how a Zenith gets into my case, and when to search instead of wait.
No prices on this page. Zenith's secondary market is thinner than Rolex's and moves by reference, and a vintage A386 is a market of its own. The catalog carries the numbers for what is in the case.

Buying a Zenith from a private dealer
What you get that a listing cannot give you.
The calibre, placed first
I confirm whether the watch carries an El Primero 400 series, a 3600, an El Primero 21, or an Elite before it is listed, from the movement engraving and the card.
Vintage bought in hand only
An A386 or A384 is never bought from photos. Dial, hands, pushers, crown, and bracelet are checked in person, and the listing says which parts are original.
The second strap and the tool
Most recent Zeniths shipped with a bracelet or strap plus a rubber strap and a changing tool. I list what is present, because a Sport with the rubber in the box is a different purchase from one without.
Seen before you pay
By appointment in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach, or by photos, video, and a call anywhere in the USA. Nothing ships until you have seen it.
Guaranteed genuine
Every Zenith I sell was authenticated by me before it was listed: calibre, reference, serial, card. The known history is in the listing.
Before you pay for any Zenith
Six things to check, wherever you buy.
I check these before a Zenith reaches my case. If you are buying elsewhere, check them yourself.
The reference on the caseback
A reference such as 03.2040.400 names the case material, the model, and the calibre in one line. The calibre it names should be the calibre through the display back.
The chronograph, run
Start, stop, and reset. On a 3600 the central hand should turn once every ten seconds and reset cleanly to zero. On a 400 series it should snap back without bounce.
Bezel, case edges, and bronze
A ceramic bezel on a Chronomaster Sport should be free of chips at the edge. Steel case edges should be unpolished. A bronze Pilot Type 20 should wear an even patina, not a scrubbed case.
Original parts on a vintage piece
On an A386 or A384, the dial, hands, pushers, crown, and bracelet should belong to the watch. If the seller cannot say which are original, assume replaced.
Card and Zenith service papers
A dated, stamped warranty card with a serial matching the caseback completes a modern set. Service papers from Zenith name what was replaced; an unrecorded service is unknown history.
Bracelet links, second strap, tool
Every link, the spare rubber strap, and the changing tool. Ask what is in the box, not just what is on the watch.
How buying works here
Four steps, one person.
01
Choose from the case, or ask
Browse the Zenith references in the catalog. If the generation or vintage reference you want is not there, tell me and I search my private network for it.
02
See it
By appointment, Monday to Saturday, in your county or at my Brickell office. Out of state, I send photos and video, including the chronograph running, and I walk you through it on a call before anything ships.
03
Pay and take delivery
I hand-deliver in South Florida. Elsewhere in the USA the watch ships FedEx Priority Overnight, fully insured, signature at both ends, in discreet unbranded packaging.
04
Inspect it yourself
Remote purchases come with an inspection window on arrival, stated in the terms. If the watch is not what the photos and the call described, it comes back.
A buyer's decision
A 3600 Chronomaster or a 400-series Chronomaster.
The Sport and Original run the 3600. The Chronomaster El Primero and the Revivals run the 400 series. Same family name, different watches.
| Criteria | 3600 calibre: Sport, Original | 400 series: El Primero 42 and 38, Revival A386 and A384 |
|---|---|---|
| What the chronograph reads | Tenths of a second, on a central hand that turns once every ten seconds, with a scale on the bezel or flange | Seconds, on a conventional central chronograph hand; tenths only on the Striking 10th variants |
| Case | Sport at 41 mm with a ceramic bezel; Original at 38 mm shaped after the A386 | El Primero in 42 and 38 mm; Revival at the original 38 mm with pump pushers |
| Power reserve and feel | Longer reserve, a newer design, the one Zenith is building the line on | The classic architecture, in production in one form since 1969 |
| Pre-owned supply | Newer; most examples are recent, with card and the rubber strap still in the box | Deeper, across more dial colours and two decades of production |
| Service | Recent calibre, little to ask about; Zenith service papers if any | Ask when it was last serviced and whether Zenith did it |
| Who it suits | A buyer who wants the current watch, the ceramic bezel, or the 38 mm Original | A buyer who wants the tri-colour dial as it was, or the Revival's pump pushers and 1969 case |
If you want the actual 1969 watch, that is the vintage A386, a different purchase again. See the block below before you buy one anywhere.
The detail
Buying a Zenith pre-owned, decision by decision.
The El Primero families, from a buyer's seat
The El Primero has run at 36'000 vibrations an hour since 1969, which is why it can time to a tenth of a second. The 400 series is the classic calibre, in the Chronomaster El Primero, the Striking 10th, and the Revivals. The 3600 arrived in 2021 with the Chronomaster Sport and puts the tenths on a central hand. The El Primero 21 in the Defy reads hundredths. The Elite is the thinner three-hand automatic. The El Primero sell page covers each calibre.
Chronomaster: Sport, Original, or El Primero
The Chronomaster Sport is the current flagship: 41 mm, ceramic bezel with the tenths scale, bracelet or rubber. The Original of 2022 puts the 3600 in a 38 mm case shaped after the A386. The Chronomaster El Primero in 42 and 38 mm is the earlier 400-series generation with the tri-colour subdials, and the Revival A386 and A384 are remakes of the 1969 watches on the same calibre. Modern wearability: the Sport. The 1969 look with a warranty: the Original or a Revival. The 1969 watch: read on.
Defy: Classic, Skyline, Extreme, and the 21
The modern Defy is the angular case on an integrated bracelet or rubber. The Classic is the three-hand Elite watch, often open-dialled. The Skyline from 2022 runs a 3600-series calibre with a tenths hand. The Defy El Primero 21 of 2017 is the hundredths chronograph, and the Extreme is the larger case around it. The second strap is part of the set on all of them, so ask for it.
Vintage A386 and A384: what to check before you pay
The 1969 A386 and the tonneau A384 are the collector references, and the Zeniths most often sold with replaced parts. Before you pay, confirm that the dial, hands, pushers, crown, and caseback belong to the watch, and ask whether the original ladder bracelet is with it. A service dial or relumed hands move the watch out of the collector market. I buy and sell these only in hand, and so should you.
What to check before you pay, wherever you buy
Read the reference on the caseback and match the calibre through the display back. Run the chronograph and watch the reset. Check the ceramic bezel edge on a Sport and the case edges on anything steel. Read the card date and serial. Ask for Zenith service papers and for what is in the box. On a bronze Pilot, look for an even patina.
How a Zenith gets into my case
I buy every Zenith in person or on my own insured label and inspect it the day it arrives: calibre against reference, chronograph run and reset, serial against card, case and bezel under a loupe, strap set counted. A vintage piece is bought only in hand. If a watch needs service, it goes to Zenith before it is listed and the papers come with it. The listing names the calibre, reference, generation, and what came with the watch.
Catalog or a commissioned search
If the Chronomaster in the case is the generation and dial you want, buy it. If you want a Revival in a dial Zenith no longer makes, a Defy 21 in a particular colour, or an A386 with its bracelet, tell me. I source through a private network and buy only after the same inspection a catalog piece gets. A correct A386 can take a long time to surface, and I will not promise a date.
When buying a Zenith from me is not the right call
If you want a current Chronomaster Sport in a standard dial with a full warranty, a boutique will sell you one new, and that may serve you better. If you are chasing an exceptional original A386 and have time, a specialist auction may surface one I cannot, and I will say so. If you want a discontinued reference, a vintage piece checked part by part, or one person who inspected the watch and will deliver it by hand, that is what I do. A trade toward the Zenith is credited after the same inspection.
Questions, answered
Before you buy a Zenith
Can I see the watch in person before I pay?
Yes. By appointment, Monday to Saturday, in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach, or at my office in Brickell. On a vintage piece I ask you to.
Is the watch an El Primero?
Every Zenith I list is named by calibre: El Primero 400 series, 3600, El Primero 21, or Elite. Elite is the three-hand automatic, not a chronograph.
Do you sell vintage A386 and A384 references?
When I have one, yes, with the listing stating which parts are original. I recommend seeing it in hand before you pay.
Do you sell to buyers outside South Florida?
Yes, anywhere in the USA. Photos, video of the chronograph running, and a call before it ships, fully insured with signature required, and an inspection window on arrival stated in the terms.
